Published weekly from January 7, 1948 to December 28, 1988, MANAS was, “a journal of independent inquiry, concerned with the study of the principles which move world society on its present course, and with searching for contrasting principles — that may be capable of supporting intelligent idealism under the conditions of the twentieth century.” Existing in the same mid-century, Los Angeles-countercultural milieu as the original Synanon organization, the editors of MANAS were early proponents of the Synanon method, covering it frequently from 1960—1963.
